Sielu Alemayehu Desta is a multi-disciplinary public health and project management professional with a strong academic foundation in Pediatrics and Child Health Nursing and Project Management. He currently serves as a Program Coordinator for Plan International Ethiopia, leading initiatives in WASH, nutrition, gender equality, and livelihoods.

Current Position (Plan International Ethiopia):

  • Healthy Village Gender Transformative WASH and Nutrition Program Coordinator (Feb 2024 – present): Provides strategic leadership for multi-sectoral projects, overseeing planning, implementation, MERL, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination. Ensures integration of gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding, and climate resilience. Serves as the Safeguarding and PSEA Focal Person for the Tigray Program Area.

Previous Experience (Plan International Ethiopia):

  • Nutrition Coordinator & Officer-in-Charge (Jan 2024): Oversaw integrated Health, Nutrition, Livelihood, and Child Protection projects in the Eastern Zone of Tigray, managing resources, designing M&E frameworks, and training staff.
  • Health and Nutrition Coordinator (Oct 2021 – Dec 2022): Led project data management and analysis, supervised health staff and community volunteers, developed work plans, produced progress reports, and ensured the integration of cross-cutting themes in the Eastern Zone.

Other Relevant Experience:

  • TSFP/BSFP Facilitator, World Vision International (Sep-Oct 2021): Coordinated supplementary feeding programs, managed distribution plans, and conducted beneficiary screening in a humanitarian context.
  • Lecturer & Community-Based Education Coordinator, Mekelle University (Oct 2014 – July 2021): Taught nursing students, pursued research, and managed the administrative and financial activities of the community-based education office, including strategic planning and resource allocation.

He possesses strong skills in project management, MERL (including tool design and data analysis with SPSS, Excel, KoboToolbox), reporting, capacity building, and adaptive management. He is experienced in ensuring safeguarding, gender equality, and disability inclusion across all program activities.
